Sorry I missed this week's meeting - Heather

Lorna informed me you played the All I Want for Christmas is You song (first song listed in this Bytown Ukulele Group songbook) as well as, Class of '57 (Lorna will send and I can add to our blog), The Mighty Quinn (HUG song book Volume 1), Don't Worry Be Happy (Bytown Ukulele Group) and Walking After Midnight (in the key of C - Patsy Cline).

For next time, keep practicing the songs we have been working on, anything else that makes you happy and have fun!

We will meet again upstairs in the Golden Prairie Art Gallery on Wednesday, December 2 at 7 p.m.

Check the sidebar for the chords to Walking After Midnight and Class of '57. Thanks to Lana and Lorna for supplying the chord sheets.

At this week's meeting we played Stand by Me with and without the video which features the island strum on the practice videos link.

We also played Someone to Lava and Lord of the Dance from the Bytown Ukulele site. If you can't find it in one of the songbooks, just go to the Bytown Ukulele Group website and click on songs and you will find it under "L".

Heather brought copies of the song, All I Want for Christmas is You (or a Uke!).  Sorry I didn't bring quite enough copies. It is the first song listed on the Bytown Christmas songbook for 2014.

We will meet again upstairs in the Golden Prairie Art Gallery on Wednesday, November 26 at 7 p.m.

We will look at some of the other songs we have been practicing next time. You can also bring a Christmas song for everyone to play if you like.

The Bytown Ukulele Group songbooks can be found here and in the sidebar.

For the next meeting on Wednesday, November 18 we decided to practice Stand by Me starting on C (see Island Strum tutorial on video page listed in sidebar), Lord of the Dance from the Bytown Ukulele group songbook and some Christmas songs of each member's choice from the Bytown Ukulele Group Christmas songbook. Please bring your favourite to share with the group next week.

Five players met on Wednesday, November 11 from 7:00 to 9 p.m. upstairs in the Golden Prairie Art Gallery.

Songs played included: Someone to Lava, Stand By Me, Riptide by Vance Joy, Rain and Snow by Be Good Tanyas, Sloop John B starting on C (we decided to find a Beach Boys version of this instead - post to follow), Blowing in the Wind staring on G, Try to Remember, Amazing Grace and Lord of the Dance from the Bytown Ukulele Group songbook.

Here is the new version of the Sloop John B chords

Thank you to my friend Aaron Tucker, designer and ukulele player extraordinaire, for the ukulele artwork on the header of this site.

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

Seven players met on Tuesday, November 3 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. upstairs in the Golden Prairie Art Gallery. Songs played included  You Are My Sunshine by the Rice Brothers, Lie Down Beside Me by Good Lovelies, Sloop John B (traditional), Someone To LavaRain and Snow by Be Good Tanyas, Riptide by Vance Joy, and a few other songs (if someone sends me the names I will add them :) ) Players present agreed to practice Riptide and Someone to Lava (video link below) at home and try them again at the beginning of the next meeting. Additional songs including ones we have already played can be played after that. The idea is that new songs can be practiced at home and then played again with the group in case there are any questions.

NOTE: It was decided to meet on Wednesdays from 7 - 9 p.m. starting with the next meeting on Wednesday, November 11.

Please consider bringing $15 to the next meeting to become a member of the Golden Prairie Art Gallery to show our support and appreciation for the free use of the gallery space.
