Sorry I didn't make our ukulele evening. Lana reports that each person picked a favourite to play with two rounds of suggestions.

The group decided to put a lot of practice time into Yer so Bad (a Tom Petty suggestion from Lynn). Each person is invited to add a verse to the song.

The group also tried Ain't No Grave, Hey Good Lookin', Uncloudy Day, Crazy, Rain and Snow, Me and Bobby McGee (this links to the Bytown Ukulele version which Lana recommended) and Walkin After Midnight.

Please let me know if we forgot to list any of the songs or if you played different versions from what I posted here.

I added Come on Up to the House and Passing Through to the site as well.

Our next meetup is Wednesday February 3, top floor of the Golden Prairie Arts Council building.

We played a lot of songs at our last meetup on Jam. 20 with each member suggesting one of our older songs to play or teaching us a new song.

Wildflowers by Dolly Parton
La Vie En Rose
Try to Remember
Four Strong Winds
I'm Yours by Jason Mraz
and several more  (sorry, I should have been writing them down!)

After our meetup, Louis suggested we also try Wagon Wheel

Here is a great rendition by the Austin Ukulele Society that she found:

Our next meetup is tonight, January 27, top floor of the Golden Prairie Arts Council building.
Wednesday, January 13, 2016

It was great to finally make it to strum club again this past Wednesday after the holiday break.

We played a lot of fun songs including:

Wildflowers by Dolly Parton
Lie Down Beside Me by The Good Lovelies
Crazy by Willie Nelson - Patsy Cline (Lana's renditon)
Come On Up to the House by Tom Waits
Please Don't Bury Me by John Prine
Four Strong Winds by Ian and Sylvia Tyson
Take One Last Look by Tom Waits
Rain and Snow by the Be Good Tanyas
and  we attempted The Log Driver's Waltz (we didn't have a good copy of the chords) but this version on the Bytown Ukulele Group website is good - The Log Driver's Waltz .

For next week we hope to try any of the songs we have practiced up to date including The Log Driver's Waltz (song sheet link above), Crazy (we agreed to practice the new chords at home) and Shady Grove for which we received the tabs this week.

Thanks to everyone who brought along new songs to try and to Lana for your great arrangements. If you email me your song sheets I can post them on the site for anyone who couldn't make it to our meetup.

I found the song sheet for La Vie En Rose. Below you will find a link to the PDF (you will note I simplified it a bit when I played it) and the video Lynn mentioned. I also posted the video for my somewhat sketchy rendition of Take One Last Look below. I will bring copies of the song sheets along next week. I tried to figure out the chords from watching Tom Waits version which you can view here.

La vie en rose (ukulele cover, chords in description and here.)

Take One Last Look (Ukulele Cover, strum picking version, my attempt at the chords here.)

Hope to see you all next Wednesday, January 20 at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the Golden Prairie Arts Council building. I will also be emailing you some songs Lana sent me. If you have songs to add, word files or PDF files converted to jpegs can be emailed to me.

Here is the information from the January 6 meetup from Lana:

"We practiced a bunch of songs last week but not everyone had copies.  I said I would supply copies for everyone for the following:

Something
Sentimental Journey
Four Strong Winds in C
Judy brought "Let it Be""

Then next meetup is Wednesday, January 13, same time, same place at the Golden Prairie Arts Gallery.

Please note that the HUG Volumes 1 & 2 Songbooks have recently been combined into one book and can be found here.

In memory of David Bowie and his passing on January 8th, I have been playing Space Oddity found on page 192 of the new HUG book. I will also add a link to the sidebar.
