Zenith, Judy, Lynn, Thelma, Verna, Cathie, Marge, Louise and Barry met at the gallery.  These nine folks strummed and sang 29 songs on the 29th!  According to Barry, such a serendipitous number association deserves a drink!

Songs chosen were:  Rain and Snow, Rox in the Box, 500 Miles, Michael Row the Boat Ashore, Blowin’ in the Wind, Angeline the Baker, Annie’s Song, Moon River (special strum pattern), Fannin Street, Silhouettes, This World is Not My Home, I Can’t Even Walk, This Land is Your Land (version in the key of D has been added to the drive and blog), Take Me Home Country Roads, Breakin’ Up is Hard To Do, Bad Moon Rising, Grandpa Was a Carpenter, Workin Man, Wagon Wheel, Don’t Be Cruel, Union Maid, The Saskatoon Moon, We’ll Sing in the Sunshine, Someday You’ll Want Me to Want You, Let Me Be There, Daydream Believer, Go Lassie Go, Fifty Miles of Elbow Room, and our signature set ending song.

It was good to have Lynn among us again after his holiday time and Heather, we hope you are well soon!

Till next time, Verna

Not sure who has signed up for the Prairie Ukulele Jamboree at the end of September but Lana and I have just confirmed with organizer Tim Hogue and guest player/instructor Ukester Brown that he will be coming out to Carman on Sunday, September 30th for a short tour and stop at Syl's for ice cream. I'll be driving him and hope that everyone can come to meet us sometime between 1:15 and 2:00. It won't be a lot of time but bring a ukulele maybe just in case. More details as we have them but please keep that date and time open if you can.

I have emailed members the songs and other details for the Mass Appeal ukulele concert. It will be on Thursday, Sept.13th at St. Vital Park by the duck pond. Rehearsal will be between 6-7pm, and the performance will start at 7:30. There will be lights.

We will meet at the gallery this Wednesday.

I look forward to hearing more about our members' adventures at the Silver Creek International Ukulele Carnival. I saw a lot of video and photos online and it looked like fun :)

Also, don't forget Saturday, August 25th is Play Music on the Porch Day.

Wednesday, August 8, 2018

In attendance were Zenith, Judy, Barry, Marge, Cathie, and Verna.

We six strummers chose the following songs:  Blue Skies with special attention to  the new-to-us intro strum pattern (we played this song as our opening song and again at halftime to reinforce strumming pattern), Daydream Believer, Let Me Be There, Angeline the Baker, Black Velvet Band, 500 Miles, Cottonfields, Wildflowers, Manitoba, Rox in the Box, Red Wing, Puff the Magic Dragon, Leaning On the Everlasting Arms, Amazing Grace (Cathie suggests that we add the A minor chord for an extra richness to chord progressions), Passing Through, Put Your Hand in the Hand, Silver Wings, He’ll Have to Go, Workin’ Man, and our signature set-ending song.

One delightful bit of news:  Zenith has become a Grandmother!

One curious tidbit:  Of the six strummers present, no one’s name started with “L” this evening.

One important announcement:  Next Wednesday, August 15, 2018, we would like to meet on Marge’s deck.  GPAC has a board meeting that evening.  Marge Warkentin has invited us all to her deck (address will be emailed).  She will post a sign at the GPAC door.  See you at Marge’s at 7 pm.

Till then, Verna

Happily, I will be back for this. I hear it is hot and hazy there. Hopefully you are staying cool.  And, no "L's" in attendance at last week's strum? That may be a first since I started anyway. :) I hope our regulars, Louise, Lana, Lorna, Lynn, Lori and Linda didn't defect and start their own group or something. The L6 Express has a nice ring to it if they did though. :)

If you are interested in taking part in the Ukulele Mass Appeal this fall keep the evening of Thursday, September 13 open.

Here is a note from Kate Ferris from the Ukulele Club of Winnipeg website.  I attended the ukulele mass appeal at Union Station and it was a great experience.

ATTENTION ALL UKERS!!!

We've just finalized the date for this year's MASS APPEAL. Thursday, September 13th at St. Vital Park (at the duck pond). Mark that date. I'll get more details to you very soon, and the music will be on-line for you to practice in two weeks. The first year at Oodena Circle we had 85 ukers from around the province. Last year, despite rain and being moved indoors to the Via Rail station, we had over 65. Let's beat that number this year! (They're working on lighting, too, so no worries. AND there will be a bonfire!) Watch here for final details!
