March 1, 2017

The four L's, June and Karen attended.  We played a few new songs this time and practiced them - Sunny Side of the Street, I'll See You in My Dreams, Rox in Box, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Life is Like a Mountain Railway, Aint no Grave, Love Me Tender (where each of us played a different string-- good practice for staying together) and others as well.

It sounds like a group will not be able to attend the Ukulele Club of Winnipeg session this coming Sunday from 2:00 - 4:30 at the Kings Head, however, if you as an individual are able to go this time or two Sunday from now, I would certainly recommend it.

Until next time, happy strumming :)

UPDATE: The Ukulele Club of Winnipeg has decided to move their strum to Carman for June 11 for our Ukulele Picnic and Strum. The Carman Collegiate stage and canteen area have been booked in case of rain. We will also extend invitations to the Brandon and Portage groups.

Please see the addition of a link to Jim Carey's songbook on the sidebar.

All I Want is You and Flowers on the Wall have been added to the Boyne River Ukulele Group songsheets page.

Louise, Lynn, Cathie, Lorna, Lana, Heather and June attended.

We played: Darlin' Cory, Angeline the Baker, Wagon Wheel, We're Going to be Friends, I'll See You In My Dreams (in a new key provided by Lana), Grow Old With Me, Blue Moon from the Vancouver Ukulele Circle book, Flowers on the Wall, Unclouded Day, Love Potion #9, Summertime, Cryin Time, Red Wing, Walk Away and our signature set ending song.

There are ten players going to the Manitou Opera House coffee house this Saturday, February 25. We will meet at the gallery parking lot at 6:00 p.m. to take the handi van.

We will be playing Wagon Wheel, Unclouded Day and Blame It... for our official set. If we are asked to do another set, we will play Cryin Time, Red Wing, and Love Potion #9. People who have them agreed to bring a stand or two to share as we will stand to play.

A number of us (some still have to confirm) have decided to attend the next Ukulele Club of Winnipeg strum which will likely be at the Viscount Gort on Saturday, March 5th, beginning at 2.

We were asked to play at  the Active Living Centre spring concert during the afternoon of Wednesday, March 29th but not enough members could make it as some are away on spring break and others are working. We would like to thank Audrey Myers for the invitation anyway.

Lana will book the Ryall Park stage for Sunday, June 11 for our second ukulele strum and picnic.

See you Saturday at 6 p.m. to those who have confirmed and then next Wednesday when we will meet again at the gallery at 7 p.m.

Until then, happy strumming!

Lorna, Lynn, Cathie, Linda, Lana, Heather, June, Louise, Tom, and Lori attended. The group played many great tunes from our regular online list, from the Vancouver Circle book and from song sheets provided by members. We played Brown Eyed Girl, Don't Be Cruel, I Can't Even Walk, I'll See You in My Dreams, This World is not my Home, Uncloudy Day, Wagon Wheel, You Don't Know Me, I Walk the Line, If You Could Read My Mind, Sea of Love and more.

We are planning on playing three songs on Saturday February, 25 at the Manitou Opera House coffee house and possibly the Ukulele Club of Winnipeg strum on March 5.

The Ukulele Club of Winnipeg strum will be at the Viscount Gort starting at 2 this Sunday instead of the usual King Street location. Update: the strum at the Viscount Gort appeared to be a success and the Winnipeg club may continue meeting there so be sure to check their site prior to March 5. Please note there are or at least weren't any tables so you should take a music stand if the next strum is held at the same location. Looking at the photos I'm sure I saw a familiar looking banjolele player in the crowd.

Lorna, Lana, Lynn, Louise, Cathie, Karen, and Barry strummed a bunch of tunes.  Nobody was interested in writing them down-- just pluckin' and playin'.  We really liked "Only You" and we want to practice it to perform.  It's 155 in the Vancouver book.

We talked about Manitou on the 25th of Feb, but think that there wouldn't be enough to warrant renting the Handivan (update: some members are interested in going)..  We also hope to get to a Strum n Suds before Lorna has to hunker down for tax season (update: March 5 is a possibility. The Ukulele Club of Winnipeg met at the Viscount Gort on Sunday, Feb. 19 and may continue to meet there instead of the Kings Head).  Also mentioned-- our June Picnic at the Park. (Update: June 11 has been discussed as a possibility). We thought it would be best to avoid the "Back 40" festival date.

We'll plan more next Wednesday-- so look at your calendars.

I also found a good site for practicing chord transitions. (This has also been added to the sidebar).
