We were delighted to welcome Kim back to the group tonight along with her son, Egan. June, Ian, Lynn,Cathie, Louise, Lana, Lorna, Zenith and Sandy rounded out the attendees.  We practiced songs for the concerts and some old favourites and soon to become new favourites.
Farewell to Nova Scotia, Jolene, Leaving on a Jet Plane (with Cathie's chord transposition), Five Foot Two Medley, Lie Down Beside Me (It was a struggle-- will have to work on it) etc, etc.
We said we would practice Red Wing for next week, but almost everyone said they practice all the songs anyway.

- Lana

Thanks Lana.  We will meet again next Wednesday, Novemeber 2nd at the gallery.

Thanks to everyone who was able to make it to our Wednesday strum. Linda, Linda, Louise, Cathie, Deb, Lynn, Judy, Lorna, Sandy, Tom, Lori, Karen, Zenith, June, and Heather met and played on the first floor of the Golden Prairie Arts Council building.

We practiced the following songs for possible inclusion in our upcoming gig, Wagon Wheel, Cryin' Time, Love Potion #9, Red Wing, Sentimental Journey, Bring Me Little Water Sylvie, Walkin' After midnight, Uncloudy Day, Mele Kalikimaka, White Christmas, Winter Wonderland, Christmas in Killarney, Silent Night, We Wish You a Merry Christmas (Lana is going to adjust her arrangement to reflect the order of how we decide to play it), and our signature closing song.

The plan is to also play Jingle Bells, likely just before Christmas in Killarney. Lana is going to create an arrangement for us in C.

We decided to practice Sentimental Journey at home for next time.

After going through our practice songs, we chose the following songs to play: Walk away, Farewell to Nova Scotia, House of the rising Sun, King of the Road, Hotel California, and Blowin' in the Wind, all from the Vancouver Ukulele Circle book, and another take of our signature ending song.

Thanks for all the ukulele playing fun and the great singing.

We will meet again next Wednesday, this time on the second floor as the first floor meeting room has a booking.

Sandy joined us for the first time tonight. We also had some special visitors, Emily and Brea. Rounding out the group were: Cathie, June, Karen, Ian, Linda, Judy, Deb, Zenith, Louise, Lana, Lorna, Heather and Lynn.

For next week we decided to work on Love Potion #9 and Winter Wonderland.

Here are the songs we played: Wagon Wheel, Cryin Time, Love Potion Number 9, Red Wing, Sentimental Journey‎, Walkin after Midnight, Unclouded Day, Mele Kalikimaka,Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Winter Wonderland, Deck the Halls, Jingle Bells, Christmas in Killarney, Silent Night (with chord melody only first, then chords and singing, and then chord melody for the final verse), We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Frere Jacques, Silver Wings and our signature ending song.

We agreed we will play the Active Living Centre show starting about 7:15 on Thursday, Dec. 15 playing the main songs we have been practicing as well as some Christmas tunes, including some as a sing along with those in attendance. Since we have such a large group now we felt it would be unfair to accept the invitation to supper, however members can buy supper tickets on their own. We will meet before 7:00 (time to be announced) to tune up. We have also been asked to play a couple of songs at the Christmas Cheer concert.

We will meet next Wednesday on the second floor of the gallery. Hope to see you there!

Wednesday, October 5, 2016

New members Linda and Ian joined us tonight. Rounding out the group for the evening were: June, Lynn, Cathie, Lori, Tom, Louise, Zenith, Deb, Lana and Heather.

We started off the night playing through the songs we agreed to work on at home last week, Wagon Wheel and Cryin' Time.

We then played through Love Potion #9, Red Wing, Sentimental Journey, Walkin' After Midnight, Bring Me Little Water Sylvie, Mele Kalikimaka (once slowly and then deciding we wanted to play it at a fast clip), Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow, We Wish You a Merry Christmas and Silent Night. For Silent Night we will play it first through with those just playing the chord melody playing it on their own followed by everyone chording and singing three verses and then ending with those just playing the chord melody for one verse. From there when we perform it we will go straight into We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

We also played Christmas in Killarney, Winter Wonderland, Unclouded Day, Spanish Melody (Louise is willing to work with people on this chord melody), and our signature closing song.

We agreed to work on Mele Kalikimaka and Bring Me Little Water Sylvie on our own at home this week.

Lana reported that the performance at the Active Living Centre will be on Thursday, Decemer 15. We will be playing for 30-40 minutes starting at approximately 7:15-7:30. We have been invited to attend the supper as well.

Hope to see you next Wednesday!

UPDATE: We have been invited by the Sonatrice Singers to perform at the annual Christmas Cheer Concert on Sunday, December 4 starting at 2 p.m. at the Carman United Church.  All proceeds from donations will go to the Christmas Cheer Board.  We will likely play two songs.
