Lynn, AJ, Lana, Lorna, Cathie, Barry, Judy, Heather, June, Marge, Lori, and Tom met at the Boyne Lodge to play at 6 p.m. We played our pre-arranged set list which included: Leaning on the Everlasting Arms, Black Velvet Band, Wagon Wheel, Clementine (just playing the chorus after the first verse and at the end), Wildflower (Dolly Parton), Red Wing, Rox in the Box, Silver Wings, Angeline the Baker, You Are My Sunshine, 50 Miles of Elbow Room, and I'll Fly Away.
Then we chose some additional songs from our repertoire, including: Sonny's Dream, Cryin' Time, Just Because, The World is not My Home, Rock & Roll Beat/I've Got Rhythm and our signature set ending song.
The residents were pleased to listen to us and said they are looking forward to our return visit on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
Carman Collegiate's student club supervised by Heather and Lynn will also be playing at the Lodge the lunch hour of February 14th singing some songs about love such as Can't Help Falling in Love With You, You Are My Sunshine, and I Lava You. Perhaps these are tunes our Wednesday group can learn as well so we can play them with the student group at our strum and picnic in June.
Since we ended our practice at the Lodge at 7 p.m., we then proceeded to Barry and Terry's place for appetizers and some more strumming including: He'll Have to Go, Farewell to Nova Scotia, Song for a Winter's NIght, Grow Old With You, The Saskatoon Moon, and Three Little Birds. Thanks Barry and Terry for you hospitality and Happy One Year Anniversary to Barry who revealed he has now been playing ukulele for a year - and still loves playing and being a part of our group (as we all do!).
- Heather
We meet to strum and sing Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Golden Prairie Arts Council building, otherwise known as the old train station, in Carman, Manitoba, Canada.

Despite the stormy night a good crowd gathered to practice in the cozy atmosphere upstairs in the train station.
Lynn brought along AJ, a Grade 9 student at Carman Collegiate and a great ukulele player and singer who meets each Monday at lunch with the Carman Collegiate Ukulele Club supervised by Heather and Lynn. Welcome AJ!
Thelma and Verna attended for their second time after joining Lana and Louise earlier to go through some chord practice. Rounding out the group were Barry, Cathie, Marge, Linda and Heather.
We played: Cotton Fields, Passing Through, Worried Man Blues (see the copy with more verses on the blog and in the Google drive song files), Wagon Wheel, Angelina the Baker, House of Gold (one we have played before but a performance song of the student club), This World is Not My Home, Grow Old With Me, Goodnight Irene, Cryin Time, Leaning on the Everlasting Arm, I'll Fly Away, Clementine, Harvest Moon, Red Wing, Rox in the Box, Little Brown Jug, Rock and roll Beat/I've Got Rhythm, One Tin Soldier, Sonny's Dream, Little suitcase in My Hand (see corrected version on the blog and in the Google drive folder), I'll See you in My Dreams, We're going to be Friends, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms, and our signature sets ending song trying it in the key of G.
A reminder that we are planning to have our practice an hour earlier (starting at 6) on Wednesday, January 24th at the Boyne Lodge and on Wednesday February 21st, also an hour early at 6 p.m., at the Boyne Lodge.
Please also consider whether you would like to take part in this year's quiz night (there was a ukulele/retired teachers team some of our members took part in last year, winning the event). Lana will have more details.
We have also been asked if we would consider playing on Wednesday afternoon during the last week of March (most members were either working or on spring break the last two years we were invited).
The Ukulele Club of Winnipeg has added our Sunday, June 10 Boyne River Ukulele Strum and Picnic to their calendar. It will be a regular bi-weekly strum for them so they will come to Carman rather than their usual Winnipeg location that day. Some Brandon group members also plan to attend. Heather was speaking with a contact in Portage who is trying to start a club there as well.
Be sure to check out the link to a neat chord progression tool on the sidebar of the blog.
Hope to see you all next Wednesday :) There will be a chording practice again for new or any interested members starting at 6:30 upstairs with the regular practice starting at 7 p.m.
