Marge, Lana, Cathie, Kim, Louise, Zenith, Manae and Heather attended.
We played Harvest Moon which is coming along nicely, Manitoba, Annie's Song which Marge brought along, Hard Times Come Again No More, I'll See You In My Dreams, Jolene, Rox in the Box, Silver Wings, Red Wing, Wildflowers, Three Little Birds, You Belong to Me and out signature set ending song.
We have been asked to play outside at the Boyne Regional Library for their Canada 150 event on Wednesday, June 21. Many members will be golfing (hence why we have been practicing Mondays instead of Wednesdays for the last three weeks) but Heather, Lynne and Linda have said they can attend so far.
Since we have been asked to play Canada and outdoor songs we have come up with the following set list:
Four Strong Winds, Manitoba, Farewell to Nova Scotia, Ise the Bye, Sonny's Dream, The Saskatoon Moon, Rox in the Box (could be about a Canadian mine just as easily) and if we need some extra songs, Red Wing, Silver Wings, Wildflowers and perhaps You Are My Sunshine for a sing along, especially since there should be kids there. The event is from 5-7 pm. Do we have players who can play between 5 and 6 and then again from 6:30 to 7? Erica is playing from 6:00 to 6:30. They will play music from the clock tower until we would be ready. The violin girls will be away at camp.

Here is a playlist of videos from the strum and picnic. I have other videos of the kids playing and singing with us but will share that video with the kids and their parents directly. I have also updated the date that Tim from the Ukulele Club of Winnipeg helpfully pointed out was set at May 2011.

Neither Lana nor Heather could make our May 7 practice and if anyone took notes they haven't 'fessed up yet. :) I imagine, however, that whoever could attend played their favourites as well as practiced for our Ukulele Strum and Picnic held on May 11.
On May 11 at our Boyne River Ukulele Strum and Picnic we had a good showing from our group, the Ukulele Club of Winnipeg and the Brandon Ukulele Club. By the end at around 4 p.m. (note for next year that seems like a reasonable end time if we start at 1:00) our guests were already asking if they could come back next year for the same Sunday before Father's Day.
It was great sharing new songs with the other groups and I think we came up with some new tunes we would like to add to our repertoire including a song the Brandon Ukulele Group modified to celebrate their Wednesday evening strums which of course would fit in well with our practices most of the year.
After each group shared some songs we played each group's favourites from the Vancouver Circle book. It was nice learning some tunes from the book that we had never tried before.
I took video of most of the event so we will be able to listen to some of the songs again.
Thanks to everyone who attended and helped with the organization and setup. It was a fun day with lots of music and laughter.
The special Canada 150 treat of ice cream with red sprinkles was particularly appreciated by the participants and guests.
A reminder that a few of us at least will be playing outside of the Boyne Regional Library between 5 and 7 on Wednesday, June 21. I believe two Grade 7 girls will be playing violin likely starting at 5 and Erica Wiebe will be playing guitar so we won't be required to play the entire time. If 6 p.m. works best we can likely arrange for that time.

We played Edeleweiss, I'll See you in my dreams , Rox in the box, Red wing, Silverwings, The Saskatoon Moon, January wedding, You Are My Sunshine, Rock n Roll beat and i've Got Rhythm (a little slower and ukuleles quieter to hear the parts), Three Little Birds, You Belong to Me, Cryin Time, Ukulele Song, Rain and Snow and our signature set ending song.
Those who had it paid their $5 toward ice cream and red sprinkles for our Sunday, June 11 event at the park. Heather sent the information to the Carman Collegiate principal for the sign.
We will be playing the following songs as our group at the event:
The Saskatoon Moon, Rock and Roll Beat, Sonny's Dream (our version) and possibly Harvest Moon ( our first attempt incorporating harmony, the riff adn the "ooo's" was quite nice and will be great with some work).

June, Linda, Louise, Lorna, Lana, Lynn, Manae, Barry and Zenith played for an in-house audience for the first time. David Enns was a very diplomatic critic and we loved it.
Lots of songs again-- We practiced Harvest Moon several times-- who can get that STRUM out of their heads. We may finally have the riff. Not quite ready for the tour yet, though. Rock n Roll beat is sounding really good -- number one group had to share Louise with the "try harder" group and it sounded great! We still love Love Potion #9.- Lana

Louise, Lorna, Kim, Zenth, Lori, Tom, Lana, June, Marge and Heather attended. We also welcomed Carman Collegate exchange student from Japan, Manae. Manae has only been playing with the Carman Collegiate strum club for a short period and is already a proficient player and lovely singer. She hopes to join us at future strums and at our upcoming picnic and strum.
We played some old favourites and some of the songs we plan to play at our Sunday June 11 Boyne River Picnic and Strum.
Songs inlcuded: Cryin' Time, Rock and Roll Beat, Harvest Moon, One Day at a Time, You Don't Know Me, Hard TImes, The Saskatoon Moon, Rox in the Box, Sentimental Journey, Grow Old With You, Just Because, Love Potion #9, Bad Moon Rising, Goodnight Irene, Tonight You Belong to Me, You Belong to Me, Silver Wings and our signature set ending song.
Even though it is Victoria Day next Monday anyone who is able to is welcome to meet at the gallery next Monday evening from 7 - 9 to strum as Louise will be availalbe and has the key.

This was our first week meeting on a Monday evening which we plan to do throughout the summer as Wednesday is golf night for some and Sontatrice Singers members don't have Monday practices again until the fall.
Louise, Lorna, Linda, Lynn, Judy, Barry, Zenith and Heather were in attendance. Welcome back from tax season Lorna! We missed Lana to clarify which songs we are playing on our own and which songs we are sharing with the rest of the players at our picnic and strum on June 11 but we think we got it right. Of course, we missed Lana (one of our regular L members) for more than that reason but she does keep our music arrangements straight for us :)
The group played: Walk away, Silver Wings, Just Because. On the Sunny Side of the Street starting on D7, Saskatoon Moon, Harvest Moon (Heather brought some sheets and will post it on the blog and with the Google drive song files. She meant to bring Manitoba which not everyone has so she will post that as well.), Flowers on the Wall, April showers, Darlin' Corey, Only You, If you Could Read My Mind, Three Little Birds for Barry who we got to sing and play with, and Cotton Fields.
We then practiced our songs for the June 11 strum including Rox in the Box which we went through a few times, Sonny's Dream, Rock n Rollbeat & i've Got rhythm, I'se the Bye which needs some more work we decided, and our signature set ending song.
Remember our meet ups will continue to be on Monday evenings from 7 - 9 p.m. upstairs in the gallery for the rest of the summer.

June, Linda, Judy, Zenith, Louise and Lana welcomed Marg Warkentin to the group.
We really covered a lot of ground-- more than 20 new songs and old favourites, Zennie did her homework so we played Rox in the Box twice.
Starting Monday, May 8, we will meet at the Gallery on Monday nights for the rest of the summer. There is a group using the downstairs room for several weeks, so we will meet in the upstairs room until the downstairs is free.
Songs that you can practice are Just Because, Rox in the Box, I's the B'y and Sonny's Dream.They weren't just being nice Lana, you are a real talent! I will send the songs to Tim to be posted for the event. I will see you all this coming Monday!
